if you swing AT the ball and dont hit it, is that counted as a stroke taken.?

me and my friend tyler are in an arguement over this and i say that you have a practice swing when NOT LINED UP DIRECTLY WITH THE BALL and then you have your swing WHEN YOU ARE LINED UP WITH THE BALL. WHEN YOU ARE LINED UP WITH THE BALL AND HAVE THE INTENTION TO HIT IT AND MISS, does that count as a stroke?
