if you spray hairspray on a headband will it break?

this morning i was doing my hair and i had a headband in. i was doing the final touch and sprayed my entire head with hairspray. 3 seconds later, the plastic headband just broke in half and fell out of my head.
ps: the headband was fine when i put it in at first
