Because, after my American electronics item blew a fuse overseas, I replaced the fuse, but I could only get a 250v version, and the item does not seem to work. Even more strange, the new 250v fuse looks as if it is burned out simply after plugging item in (to a 110v converter, of course....) Just to be clear, the voltage here is 220v so I use 110v down converters for my American electronics. A malfunctioning travel converter caused the original fuse to burn out, so I am trying to determine if it was really only the fuse that was damaged (there was a big "pop" when the original 130v fuse blew) or if the electronics item was internally damaged in some other way.
Why would the new 250v fuse be burning out simply by plugging the item in (to 110v) without even turning it on?
And, if the items was fried beyond the original fuse, what chance do I have for fixing it (it is a several thousand $ item, so it would be worth the cost, if it is possible.)
