If you place an object in polymer clay and then cook it, will the object stay

adhered to the clay? Specifically I am wondering about gemstones. I've recently started working with polymer clay and really love it, and I am curious if I could press a gemstone into a creation and then bake it, to make my own pendants, beads, and so forth.
 
No, you have to "mount" it by giving it a collar or rim, just like a real gem mounted in metal. Otherwise you have to add glue after it falls out.
