if you have a curved spine/bad posture would machines be better than free weights?

at least to start out with...
i keep hearing/reading people say that machines arent as good.. but its so much easier for me to focus on holding my posture correctly, and focus on the right muscles on machines.. and it seems to be working pretty well..
i was thinking if free weights really are better(i do use them for my arms and shoulders at home actually), that i could slowly transition to them eventually when im more solid and i dont have to focus so much will on keeping myself held right... after a good long work out my muscles actually hold me correctly on their own for a pretty long while till they relax again...

or should i just force myself to do the free weights, maybe using lighter weights, till i get the full hang of it?
i know the machines work, my lower back feels like its made of steel right now and it used to go out all the time... but im wondering if it would be better in the long run if i switched.
