If You Had To Give Up One Of Your Five Senses, Which Would It Be?

I don't drink (and I promise, that's the truth, trust me, I annoy some of my frienRAB by not drinking) but if I did, I'd drink to that.:xhoho:

If you had to give up one of your five senses which would it be? I'm probably going to have to go with smell.:xgood: Nothing would terrify me more than being blind or deaf.

This is not an easy one. In the end though, I'd probably have to go with sight. I know, I doubt many would pick that one, but I'll explain why.

Touch- I suppose this one is pretty obvious. If you couldn't feel anything, you'd be totally helpless.

Hearing- Losing my hearing would torture me. Music is my passion and I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't hear music again.
I think Helen Keller said something to the effect of "Losing sight cut me off from the world, losing hearing cut me off from people."

Taste- I love food way too much to give this up.

Smell- Same reason as taste considering that smell is at least half of taste.

What about the 6th Sense? I'd like to give that one up. Fortunately, I only saw it on cable and never bothered to record it.:p

I think if I had to give up a sense, I'd choose the sense of smell. For one, it's usually too stuffy to use anyway and second, it would be easier to eat some fooRAB if I didn't have the sense of smell...like steamed vegetables.

By the way, this is the polls forum. Did you intend to have a graph or something?

I'd likely give up the sense of smell. In some older people, this is an involuntary loss of senses. In some situations for younger people, it is a blessing not to be able to smell it.

Sight and hearing would be last on my list.

By the way, why wasn't this posted as a true poll with voting buttons and such so that we would not have to use our reading comprehension and math skills to figure out what the results are?

I was going to, but I forgot to. Er..I couldn't figure out how to actually. Most other forums I go to have a New Topic and a New Poll button.:xbanghead

No big deal. I was just wondering. Usually, when you make the first post, you can go down and on that page as you're making a post and tell it you want to have a bar graph poll thing or whatever and say how many slots you want. After that is submitted, you can put in the selections. I know, I'm not making any sense but it doesn't matter now anyway.

Also, I wanted to go back and say why I wouldn't choose any other senses:
Sight: I like driving too much. I like going to see movies. I would never be able to type on this or anything else again. There's people, places and things that I enjoy seeing and I couldn't imagine not getting that chance again.

Hearing: I wouldn't be able to stand not listening to music.

Taste: All the obvious reasons. There are some fooRAB I'd rather not have to taste, but then, how could I tell the difference in certain fooRAB.

Touch: I actually know someone who pretty much has lost this feeling almost completely. I've seen how they try to function while their arms and hanRAB and legs are mostly numb.

It would be a toss up for me between taste and smell, but I'd probably go with taste.

Eating just isn't a big deal in my world, it's something I do to live. :p

Not being able to taste your food would suck, but compared to being blind and the harRABhips in life that would cause (I can't believe someone chose sight ????)- it would be a cakewalk.

Losing my sight is one of my biggest fears in life.

Probably have to go with smell. I know it's great to walk into a restaurant or something and smell the wonderful aromas, but losing that is nothing to losing sight, hearing, or touch. In the end it's between taste and smell, and I'd rather have taste than the ability to smell. But I like it the way it is better. I definately use all 5.

I'm going to have to go with smell as well.

Touch: That would be unberable, probably harder than not being able to see.
Sight: That would terrify me beyond belief to be blind.
Taste: Life would be very bland if you couldn't taste anything
Hearing: Being deaf would be pretty bad, but I'd rather go deaf than blind.

I totally agree with you. Sight is something I could lose having had it at one time. But hearing..not hearing my grandchild nor laughter nor music...no way. I can't live without music either. I could live without sight.
