No they have a huge impact I'm sorry to say. I was always an average student, smart they said but 'he doesn't apply himself'. The kid who got the best marks in my high school is now a doctor. In college I struggled with some Math because I had goofed off my whole life in math class and I never grasped a lot of the basics. I didn't have my choice of majors because some of the really challenging majors (like pre-med or pre-law) were very competitive and I simply didn't have the marks or the fundamentals at that point.
I took an economics major (because it interested me) and I really applied myself (finally) and I graduated but I struggle with employment because economics isn't the best field, career wise. Some of my friends that were like me took business majors and are basically in the same spot as me. Had I done better in school I might be a veterinarian, a lawyer, physical therapist, or some other high paying job that I simply didn't qualify for in college.
It matters dude.
