If you could tell Harley engineers to fix something what would it be?

If they fixed all these things mentioned, they wouldn't be Harleys anymore. After over 45 years of fixing what the engineers should have done, it would feel strange to have my tools just sitting in the cabinet.

Only can comment on my '07 Ultra:

1) Gearing on the 6 speed is too tall and drive train makes a lot more noise than my '04 Wide Glide did. The gearing may be related to a few things: horsepower, bike being heavy, etc.

2) The stock seat is terrible compared to say a Mustang

3) I think the chain driven cams and tensioners is a poor design, especially when they have to be inspected/replaced at 40K, which is about a $600 bill. Cams should be something you never have to think about until engine rebuild time.

4) Air temp guage should be replaced with an oil temp guage

5) Fried thighs - better exhaust routing would be nice

Other than those gripes, I'm happy with the bike. I was surprised than the 96 doesn't seem that much more powerful than my old 88, but then again my Wide Glide was about 200 pounds lighter. I didn't buy the bike for speed so it's fine for me. I do like that I can run at 80 without the motor screaming - that's the only part of the 6 speed I like.

I think a good start would be to fix whatever internal company problems they have. a lot of the items listed in this thread are issues that these bikes have had for years and Harley is well aware of them, but rather than correct the problem they add another item to the accessory catalog to correct it. also (and this may be just the area I live in) make some changes to the dealerships, I go into any of the dealers in my area and the attitude I get is that I am bothering them, they usually have no idea what I may be asking about and make no effort to find out anything. I feel as tho the customer service stopped when i signed the paperwork at time of purchase. Dont get me wrong I am perfectly happy with my bike, which is an 09 ultra by the way. I just think harley should wake up, maybe look at the situation several other american motor company's are in. betting the future of your motor company on an image and the idea that amearicans will "buy american" will only carry you so far. just my two .02
and if anyone knows where to get that option to change the weather when the bike fires up, let me know. I want one of those!!

Due to the pussification of the American male, men became part of an endangered species. Eyes looking at shoes when a hot girl walks by, eats buckets of crap to whoever serves it to them and balls the size of mustard seeds.
