If you buy a condo how can you be sure the building won't be torn down in a few years?

Does this ever happen, and lets say it does are you reimbursed or are you SOL?
Sorry for the poor wording. I'm just curious since obviously buildings don't last forever I'm curious what happens to condo owners when a building is removed?
