if you buy a blackberry on vodafone can you eventually unlock it to go back to o2?

i want to buy a blackberry curve but you can only get it on vodafone for pay-as-you-go and i don't want to buy a bill pay phone. o2 don't do them on pay-as-you-go, but if I bought one on vodafone and in a few months o2 brought them out would i be able to unlock the phone to go back to being on o2?
