...do they have a thumbs up or down? seems to me an invitation to rattle someones position on politics especially and stir up ire!
And my point Stephen is that they failed to see the quite evident outcome in this revealing their immature naivety
 
The initial thought behind the thumbs is that is was meant to be a gentle reminder that your answer could be better.

Better presented

Somewhere along the lines, it began to be a tool of rudeness. It is less that the answer is 'right' or 'wrong', but more a validation as to your real worth around here.
