...whole motor is junk? I have a '92 Honda Civic DX with the 1.5L engine. The other day it stopped running and when looking under the hood, I noticed shavings by the cam gear. Today I tore down the head and the whole sprocket snapped and the dowel is tore up. The end of the cam is cracked and gouged so I know I will definitely have to replace that, not a big issue. What I am worried about is whether or not the lower end risks any chance of being no good because once that gear snapped the timing was off so the valves most likely hit the pistons. After carefully looking over the gear, it is an after-market adjustable option made by AEM I believe. And whoever had the vehicle before I did, and put this addition on, retarded the timing by about 20 degrees. Any insight will be greatly appreciated, Thank You!
