I was tested for my hypothyroidism 4 times before they finally did the right test! grrr! Make sure they are giving you the T3 test for your thyroid. it's done by them drawing your blood. good luck!

...cause my symptoms? I have not felt well for several months and I have many symptoms of hypothyroid like poor memory, fatigue, low sex drive, dry skin, poor concentration, mood swings, nausea, weight gain and dizziness. The dizziness is getting really bad, day before yesterday I thought I was going to pass out at work. My mother even had worse mental symptoms like racing thoughts which I have had occasionally as well. I don't seem to have the constipation or dry hair though. My grandmother and mother both had hypothyroid and I feel strongly that this is the culprit even though I'm only 37. I have been reading a lot about how TSH, which is the test I am waiting to hear results on, is often not a reliable indicator. So if this test comes back okay what would my next step be? I don't want to be labeled as a hypochondriac because I'm pushing for more testing! My doctor is great and ordered a CBC, CMP and TSH and a CT scan to rule everything out. They did a finger prick test for blood sugar in the office and it was 87, which she said was good because this was at 3 pm and I hadn't eaten since 8:30 am. I guess my biggest fear is all of these tests will come back normal and it will just turn out that I'm nuts lol! Seriously though, these symptoms are becoming more pronounced as time goes on and are really starting to have a negative effect on my daily life. Everyone thinks I'm a dingbat because I'm constantly saying "I forgot" or my employer will tell me to do something and 2 seconds later I have forgotten what it was. Those are just a couple of examples but I have a hundred more! I don't feel depressed, I am generally a very happy person and truly have nothing to be depressed about so I have ruled that out completely.
sal1970 good point, I guess I just got nervous when she ordered the CT scan. I think the internet is a wonderful thing but sometimes you can have too much info. I'll try to quit putting the cart before the horse lol!

If all those come back negative then the next step would probably be an ultrasound of your thyroid. Is your thyroid currently enlarged or painful? I have a slightly enlarged thyroid and my grandpa had his removed at a younger age. They have done all the thyroid hormone testing on me multiple times and all 4 of the tests come back negative every time. I have not yet had the ultrasound but I did have a CT on my thyroid and it was normal. I wouldn't worry too much being that its very treatable and you'll live a normal life with it.
I honestly have all those symptoms you've mentioned for close to a year and mine is very much related to anxiety and I am a hypochondriac because of watching my dad die in his sleep suddenly. If you get all your tests back normal then you probably do not have thyroid problems and instead its something like anxiety. At 37 its completely possible for hormone problems too if you're a female, pre menopause starts at your age. Good luck!
