If the subs are in the trunk how do you hear it from the car?

I've been wanting to get a dirty audio for my car for awhile now. But i dont exactly get the whole idea. Where do you put the speakers, sub box, etc? in the trunk or somewhere in the car?

please help me, i have no idea on this
