If the New Testament came from God then how come the church fathers

gerry hat trick

argued over it's content for decades? And the church still can't find universal agreement on what books should or shouldn't be included.

The history of the early church during the 4th and 5th centuries sounds much more like a man made power squabble than anything divine.
seeker of Holy God........The real dilemma for people like you is that without the church fathers you would never have even heard of Jesus because the New Testament would never have been canonized.
But I guess you wouldn't know that.
Ricky....So is that a part acknowledgment that God had nothing to do with it.

Incidentally, why do you think it took so long to canonize?
Stumped are we?
Marcus.......Many mistakes and contradictions, that's the only part that you got right.

God obviously had nothing to do with any of it.

God word, God's language. Does he speak the same language as the people, or did someone interpret the words? How can we know what the words were, and what God meant? Words change from generation to generation. How can we possibly understand the words of men centuries ago? How can we know what the words of then mean now? We can't. Men will interpret other men to say what they want. Just my opinion.

The Old Testament came from God also, and arguments over it's content also continue to this day. Most arguments are around understanding its meaning, or getting the correct translation. In 392 A.D. and in 397 A.D., the only Christian Church in existence, the Roman Catholic Church, in two Councils in Carthage Africa, established the exact books to be in both the Old and New Testaments. Then good ol' Martin Luther came along and decided to protest (thus the protestants) about how one determined which books should and which should not be in the Bible, and then the squabbling started. If you don't look seriously and deeply into the situations and struggles of "the early church" as you call it, it will seem "much more like a man made power squabble than anything divine", but, once you take serious study into the matter, the "squabble" you refer to will take on obvious indices of a struggle between God and the devil, however trite that might sound to a non-believer.
If you have a serious interest in the matter, you can read "A General Introduction To Holy Scripture: Second Edition" by A.E. Breen, Ph.D., D.D., (1908), 804 pages God Bless you.

Your point is well taken, and it's actually pretty compelling evidence for the non-existence of God.

If an all-knowing, all-powerful God cannot or will not ensure His Own Holy Word is not susceptible to the whims or errors of the people He has entrusted with it, then either He is NOT all-knowing and all-powerful, or He simply doesn't care if we believe in Him or not. Which means he is not the God that the Christians claim He is.

because many of the church leaders by that time had stopped believing in god and turned the church into a institution.

in the book of revelation most of the church's had left their first love jesus and turned to traditions and false teachings

Actually it was the Bishops who followed the true teachings of their predecessors the Apostles who defended the Catholic Church's oral and written traditions against the heresies of those who wanted to create their own truths. The Christians were Christians they never called themselves as Gnostic, Nazarene, Novatian, Macedonian, Arian, etc. What modern Fundamentalist have done was use heretical doctrines to justify their own denomination's beliefs.

During the 4th and 5th Centuries the Arian and Macedonian decided to abandon the Apostolic Traditions to justify their own movements to gain power within the Catholic Church. The true Christians defended the Apostolic Traditions which caused conflict between these heretical sects.
So yes it is true that the Arian and Macedonian sects were man made.

They were mostly in agreement actually if you look at their New Testament Canonical lists only a few were argued about but even these were accepted by most. So you are wrong!

The Apostles were also Church Fathers whom Jesus chose!

Did I not say Jesus the God of the Christians chose them, so they are Divine, also it took a while as we didn't have the chance or ability to come together as Jesus Bride until Constantine this doesn't mean they weren't always accepted. The Church as one is who Jesus Bride is.

God had everything to do with it!
