oil fields..how would have resulted? why the Nazis saw the need to split their armies into 3-4 different segments?

what really was the need for capturing a large port city such as Leningrad so early on? as couldnt they use the ports along the Baltic to transport goods if needed or how really important the siege on Lenigrad was? as well as the seige on Stalingrad.?

please explain also, why the Nazis didnt make a base in Kiev over the winter..since many of the troops were lacking coats and make a base to attack further east after securing the oil fields? and possilby the volga by stationing trrops along west bank of Stalingrad?

whose decisions these were and why they made these decisions?

please explain what you can

thanks for your answers!
