...people for life? Is this because the layer below the epidermis is damaged by acne/scars as well, and therefore, unable to heal? The skin is supposed to have a high rejuvenation ability, explain how moles/acne/scars etc. don't seem to shed their old cells gradually revealing new skin beneath.
