The United Auto Workers keep telling us that 2 million people or more will lose their jobs if these Detroit companies fail. Mechanics, dealers, car parts businesses, gas stations, repair shops etc.

How is that so? Will all GM, Ford, and Chrysler cars suddenly disappear off the roads. Will people who own these American cars suddenly stop driving and filling up/repairing their cars. Will they never buy a car again? Yes I understand the UAW will lose it's power and many autoworkers will lose their jobs or get lower paying manufacturing jobs, but where does the 2 million number come from?

My guess it would be like a domino effect. The auto worker is laid off and he no longer needs a childcare and other things that are needed for him to work like his rented uniforms and so on. I have never understood how they think they could just go on paying $50 to $90 per hour to manufacture autos to sell to people makeing $6 to $10 per hour. My idea is for them to stop paying a ceo millions a year and others millions in bonuses and use that money to stay in business. The government did not step in when Wal Mart built in small towns and the small stores had to go belly up. What is the difference? - POWER OF MONEY.
