military? please do not judge my friend he has had a hard life and was homeless for awhile so he couldnt pay the child support. He wants to turn his life around and join the military but is wondering if the child support will cause a problem for him.

he doesnt know where his kids are and he cant support them if he cant get a job. This is why he wants to join the military

Unfortunately, regardless of circumstances, the inability for one to pay their bills makes them an "administrative burden."

With the E-1 salary at approximately $19,000/year, paying off $40,000 in arrears in a timely manner could be difficult (though I realize the irony of it being more difficult if he's denied.)

He should see a recruiter anyway, as the policies vary between the branches. He might be able to get a waiver, though it might be difficult to impossible.

Good luck!
