If someone is "I'm mobile" can I send IM to their PC?

If I need to send a longer IM to someone, which does not really need to be INSTANT, rather than running up their text message count I would like to leave it on their pc. I would like to be able to make a choice. I would rather not use email, as it is checked very infrequently and it might be days before it is seen.
