If people stopped volunteering for military service, what would happen?

Now, I was over there and saw some hardcore shit. I was wondering one day, if people just stopped volunteering, would it send a strong enough message? Who would back these foolish politicians up? If people just stopped, what would they do? If people just said, "we are not fighting your ridiculous wars anymore?" What would happen? What if the people serving now, not just in the U.S., but the world, just went home?

There has been military forces even without a war.

Even if no one volunteered or signed up guess what there would be someone out there who would get greedy and try to take over lands and goods so there will never really ever be peace.

Better to stay trained then go in blind.
 
Then we would have to institute a draft. The military is still a necessary function of government whether you like it or not.

Honestly though, I would like to see some mandatory service, I think it would make all of us more connected as a country. So actually, it may not be such a bad idea. Of course this is coming from a veteran who couldn't serve in the military again because of medical reasons. So take from it what you will.
 
Stupid question since it would never happen. If it did, the government would instill a conscription and/or draft. The people would then be enforcing would be agencies such as FBI as well as the local police departments and other law enforcement groups to ensure people meet their military obligation. So your question is stupid
 
Then the government would probably try to force people into the military, just like in countries where people have to join the army for "the good of their country" or some nonsense.
 
exactly what you described would happen. if everyone who was a soldier stopped being a soldier, then there would be no soldiers.


however, there will always be people like me who are eager to be soldiers. so this will never happen.
