If masculinity is demonized and femininity is not, why...?

...is it much more socially acceptable for girls to behave in a "masculine" way (i.e. play sports, wear pants/boyish clothing, pursue a career in a traditionally male-dominated field) than it is for boys to act "feminine" (i.e. play with dolls, wear skirts/dresses, choose to be a stay-at-home-dad)?
For clarity, this is a response to an assertion that seemed to suggest that masculinity is actively demonized whereas femininity is not.
