the term "civil marriage"? Last time I checked, straight couples have a RIGHT to enter into CIVIL marriage. Thus, marriage is a civil right.
Civil Right:
"The rights belonging to an individual by virtue of citizenship." (yep, sounds like marriage.)
So those "acitvist courts" were correct in declaring marriage as a civil right.
This is an issue of EQUAL civil rights.
If WOMEN can marry MEN, then MEN can marry MEN too.
GENDER is a protected class.
and don't start the argument with polygamy........
We're not denying equal rights by banning polygamy because NO ONE has the right to marry multiple people.
Thus, everyone has EQUAL rights.
But by saying the people who WOMEN can marry and the people that MEN can marry are not the same types of people, you are denying equal rights on the basis of GENDER which is a protected class.
