...just beat an old boxer? juan manuel marquez is simply amazing. he has dominated the lightweight division for quite some time now. after his fight against manny pacquiao, he continued to pile up wins against good boxers. he beat and lost to new and up and coming fighters then beat a great boxer but past his prime joel casamayor. dinamita has managed to stay on top at the lightweight division then tried welterweight but badly lost to the much bigger floyd mayweather. manny pacquiao on the other hand did not just stay at lightweight but he continued his dominance against guys who are naturally 3 weight classes bigger than him and beat them. oh not beat them but completely destroyed them. a hardcore boxing fan knows pac is no longer the one dimensional fighter marquez twice fought. he is now packed with superior skills and a right hand capable of knocking down even a light middleweight. after his fight against pacquiao, what was jmm's improvement? is he stronger now? is he much quicker? is he now more skilled just like what pacquiao has become? so if they fight today, does anybody think it would be in any manner competitive? what if manny pacquiao beats juan manuel marquez? it is most likely that his doubters would only say pac just beat an old washed up fighter, right? and if pacquiao does beat marquez, would it help manny's all time ranking? i guess it would but it would be so little compared to beating berto, bradley, martinez or even mosley. dont get me wrong, marquez is higher in the all time rankings than any of these guys but these guys would present better fights. mosley though past his prime obviously would still present the david vs goliath thing that would always play huge in any boxing enthusiast. though berto and bradley has not achieved that much yet, they are undefeated fighters who currently resides at the top of their respective divisions and manny beating these guys would erase any doubts that pac avoided black slick boxers, right? martinez is without a question a great danger to anybody 160 and below and manny taking risk and beating this great champion would only cement his place not only in the all time rankings but in our minds, boxing fans.
