interesting, that's all GWB could see him as too. Lincoln was so much more than a war president. Unlike GWB, he did not pick the war, the war picked him and he did the best he possibly could to save America. Both GWB & BHO both revere Lincoln but the latter seems to understand him better than the former.

Actually 1.8 million were killed during the Civil War.

How was he like Obama? I haven't a clue what your question means since there has never been a war like our Civil War on our continent. Unless you are suggesting Obama could possibly be the cause of another Civil War by taking the State Rights away from individual states.

Both were in the U.S. Senate for a very short time before being elected to the Presidency. Both men. Both fairly tall. Both wear men's clothing. Both were married. Both had fingernails. Both lived or will live in the White House. Shall I go on?

Hey Paul in San Diego... the country was not divided over slavery. It was divided over whether the south should be allowed to break away. Do you honestly believe that the white yankees fought and died so southern blacks could be free? Go back to school and learn some history.

They both took/take over a country that was/is severely politically divided. In Lincoln's case, it was the pro-slavery versus anti-slavery political ideals. For Obama, it's the conservative versus liberal political ideals.

Also, Lincoln sought to put together a cabinet of his political enemies. His point was that he didn't want to get caught up in a kind of groupthink (like the Bush administration admittedly did in the run up to the Iraq war). Once when George HW Bush was asked why he would choose a VP with whom he often disagreed (Mondale), he replied that he didn't want a VP who agreed with everything he thought, because then you only have one person thinking. But, if they disagree, then you have two people thinking.

That's basically what Obama is trying to do with the appointments he's making to his cabinet. And, even Rush Limbaugh is impressed (go figure).
