...to Fix Unemployment? I'm asking this question as a socialist, and I frankly don't think job creation should be or CAN be the job of the capitalist private sector. I think the way the capitalist private sector works, the way it invests money for profit, it's going to destroy more jobs than it creates -- for years into the future.
But every time I ask a question in here about when the Republicans or the Democrats or the freaking Big Government is going to fix the jobs crisis, I get a mystical mantra from the conservatives in here: "Job creation is not the government's job. Job creation has to be done by the private sector."
OK - well assuming that you're right, WHEN IS THE PRIVATE SECTOR actually going to step up to the plate, then?
Do we need to wait for the Rapture before this happens? Or do the fine profit-minded CEOs in private industry have some plans to bring us a little unemployment relief before Jesus returns to judge the quick & the dead?
ADDED DATA:
As some conservative points out below, the average jobless rate in "socialist" Europe in 2010 was even higher than in the US - about 9.7% according to Wikipedia.
Some European countries had 2010 unemployment rates even higher than that - 20% in Spain, 14.4% in Latvia, 10.1% in France, 13.9% in Ireland, and 9.2% in Russia.
But some of the most "socialist" European & non-European countries had rates far lower than that:
Austria - 4.3%
Cuba - 1.6%
China - 4.1%
Germany - 6.7%
Denmark - 6%
Netherlands - 4.8%
Norway - 3.1%
Sweden - 8.5%
If American capitalism is so mighty, why can't it match or exceed an allegedly "socialist" country like Germany or the UK in bringing unemployment down?
Why can't the US beat the notoriously "socialist" economy of Sweden -- not to mention the "socialist" economies of Denmark and the Netherlands -- in keeping unemployment low?
Shouldn't American corporations -- eager to demonstrate the virtues of free enterprise -- be rushing to show that
