If I upgrade my BB Bold 9700 to OS6 through another carrier, will it void my warranty?

I have read it doesn't but I'm not totally sure. This guy said that if you did it and had a problem they would just refuse to help until to downgrade again. Is this true? Is it as bad as jailbreaking an iphone. I mean the upgrade is official, just through another network. Thanks. x
