If I take a semester off from my university, will I lose my aid?

I recently changed my major and can't take the classes I need until spring. Right now I'm taking only 1 class I need, and the other 3 are unnecessary. I want to drop those 3 classes, (or all of them if that is necessary) and maybe keep the one I need, but I'm afraid I will lose my pell grant and have to pay that back which I really can't afford. I also don't know what will happen to my stafford loan for either semester. Help?
also I wondered if I fail at least half (maybe more) will i lose my aid for either semester?
