He bought it on April 2008.
It's Harley Davidson sportser, 2005
he paid almost $6,000
He invested in it and now it's chromed out, with blue lights around it so people can see him at night... Is it possible to sell it back?
I'm in school fulltime, we have only one car that we pay $600 a month for it, no it's not even a fancy car, we just had negative equity from another vehicle..lol
He bought the bike to save money on gas because he works an hr away from were we live.. we have 2 kids and my husband wants another one, who won't fit on a bike, so we have to figure out how to get rid of the bike so we can afford another (used) vehicle.. plz help!
what can we do? would the dealer buy it back? can we sell it on the street? My husband said we owe about $12,000 on it because of all the insurance we put on it, plus the gap insurance..

the dealer probably won't buy it back with all the add-ons. If you can afford it, I would keep the bike and try to take out a small personal loan ($2000 - $3000) to buy an additional used car. The payments won't be very big and you can get a decent car in that range. If he is riding to work an hour away, you would honestly save money in gas in the long run if you didn't sell the bike. If you really want to sell it, you'll have to sell it by owner, try ebay or just listing an ad in the paper. You won't get back the money you put into it, but you should at least get enough to buy a car.

this is SOOOOO common. But what you need is help..
A) pull all the chrome off and sell them on ebay . you wont get
1/10th of the money back on them selling with the bike.
B) selling bike back to dealer will get you less then selling thru newspaper.
C) Sportsters are the cheaper bike, they dont have good resale value, lucky for you people are looking for bikes.
D) its possible,,, possible you can trade it in on a used car, try,
see if you can get the 6,000.00 value back.
E) if you have to take a loss and sell it for 5,000.00 then thats what you need to do. You owe more then you can afford.
f) call insurance company, is it cheaper to cancle right now (if your paying more then 500.00 year, you got ripped) or can you change your insurance to the used car you will buy later for little or no add'l cost.

Last... summers winding down, do all of it this weekend..period!

To be completley honest UR FUCKED with tha bike no one will buy a used 2005 harley for more than 12000 dollars

hope it helped!!!!!!

The $12,000 makes no sense. All the insurance you put on it makes it so you owe $12,000 on a $6,000 Sporty? Your hubby is talking out of his bung hole. don't YOU know what you owe on it?
Well, like most everyone here has said, you are pretty much screwed, he should have checked out the Sporty market before paying $6k for a used 05, the market is constantly flooded with unwanted Sportys, you can pick them up from private individuals like YOU for a song, which is exactly what you'll end up doing if you decide you need to dump this thing. I like the one persons idea of floating a small loan for a couple thousand dollar car. Either that or he rides that bike. Too bad he had to go changing the bike right away, usually best to leave it alone til you know it's a keeper. That's what I did with a new 08 I bought this spring. Hey Byron, did I tell ya I have some news for ya?

You are outta luck. No the dealer doesn't want it back. They make money selling new motorcycles not buying them used. Your sportster is worth book and probably low book unless you can wait a few months. All the accessory's may make it more desirable to a potential customer than a box stock bike but most of the accessory money you spent is wasted.

you could expect to get money from insurance costs, or taxes on it ..

but getting money from what you paid for the bike, and some of the chrome work yes

put it on ebay

$6000 is good

getting $8000 lucky

if your husband really thinks $12000 for a sportster, you're better off adding a side car to it, and keep it

first of all NOBODY wants a sportster. Most of us want a big twin.Which means you will never get your money back out of that thing. Ride it till the wheels fall off!

I love th comment "you fell for the line I need a Harley to help save on gas" well guess what I'll bet no one who has answered this question has a vehicle that gets 52 mpg on the highway unless they own some sort of lousy prius or something like that. I have a big twin Dyna Street Bob 2008 and I get 52 on the highway and about 43 in town, plus everyone slows down wishing they were me. Stick with the bike cut corners where you can. I'll et there are things you can cut out of your life that will help you save more than you would get on the resale of all the parts and the bike. I think you are looking for a quick fix. Remember, steady and slow wins the race. Oh and all of you who don't beielve I have a street Bob follow the link below.
