If I plead guilty to a reckless driving charge in VA can the judge still reduce to

improper driving? I was speeding in Virginia (83 in a 70) which constitutes a reckless driving charge which is a misdemeanor in VA. I would like to do "trial in absence" since I live in Georgia, but think that sending in the appearance, waiver and plea form is an automatic guilty plea. I was guilty of speeding, but would like to not have a misdemeanor on my record. Can I send in the form along with my good driving record and ask the judge to reduce my charge to improper driving?

You can ask, but since the judge will see that this wasn't even important enough for you to show up for, what incentive would he have to reduce the charge?
