If I only unlock my iphone 2g and not jailbreak and install cydia will I not

get the push issue? Everytime I jailbreak my iphone 2g on redsn0w using 3.1.2 I install cydia and I unlock it. Cydia doesnt even work so i cant download the push fix app. If I only unlock it will I not get the push issue that makes push notifs not work?
