If I have custody of my child, can I move to another state without notifying the court?

I have full custody of my child. The father only has every other weekend or as agreed upon. I mentioned this to the father before about possibly moving and he was fine with it. Can I take his verbal word for it or would I have to go to court to verify that I am allowed?
