If I Get Ipod Apps from other places than itunes does my ipod need to be jail broken?

If i get my apps from torrents or other websites does my ipod need to be jail broken to play them

Well, most probably because IF it is a product that you would have to BUY in the apple store, such as "if it has a price" then i guess you will have to jailbrake it, but if you plan on getting FREE apps then by all means go right ahead, you won't be banned!
