I am thinking it will be time soon (in a few months) to get a new dog (after my 11 year old dog sadly died) I think I would like to get 2 this time. What would work better 2 boys, 2 girls or 1 of each. Of course they will both be de-sexed as soon as they are old enough

One of each would be good because they will definitely get along, however even if desexed the male can be protective over the female when around other dogs. whatever you chose should be ok if you raise them as pups together.

boy dogs generally 'like' girls better while female dogs 'prefer' guys better.

That's easy: DON'T.
Two puppies will bond to each other, not get one on one time, have double the problems, and double the costs. Like having twins, they talk to eachother in their own tongue, ignore you.
Getting two puppies at once is almost always a bad idea.

As a rule of thumb, two years between pups.

If you really want two puppies, don't get girls! One of each is best, but not two girls. And when one becomes a bully, let it. If you try to force them to be equals you'll start fights.

I won't say that two puppies can't be done. I will say that human companionship is more vauable to a dog than canine.

I got a puppy a few years back. 3 months later, We got her sister from the previous litter (7 months older). They are inseperable and have two complete distince personalities. And, they are very fickle about other animals until they get used to them. They get along great, except for the occasional tiff over food or a toy.

Anyway, they are both girls, which means I have to deal with two dogs going into heat. And they usually do it at the same time, which is annoying.

Cannot suggest what dogs to get as that is very much personal choice, but I will advise against getting two puppies together. It makes house training and everything so much harder. Most responsible breeders will not sell two littermates together, even for experienced breeders/trainers, etc it makes things so much harder.

However, providing you properly socialise one puppy and train it well until it is around 9-12 months, you can then have the joy of adding a nother new puppy.

Good luck.

Hi, i read some where that you shouldn't get 2 puppies from the same litter. My mum did this, she got 2 cocker spaniel boys and they use to fight really bad, even making each other bleed. In the end, we had to give one away. I would get one puppy first, train it then maybe get another one.

I have only had males and one dog at a time, but my sister has 2 boston terriers - one is boy and the other is girl. They are littermates too. They get along beautifully, but they also will get into trouble together as well..lol. They don't like to do things individually. They share the same bed and crate even though there are 2 separate ones.

I would get a boy and girl. I think 2 of the same sexes might try to compete with each other to be the alpha male or female.
