If I drink water and eat regular, will I lose weight?

I currently weight 290lbs and I'm 6'3. I am 24yrs old also! I use to weight 225lbs. I constantly drunk soda drinks, espcially Mountain Dew when I gained all this weight. Before when I drunk soda drinks, i switched strictly to diet drinks and I do lose about 20lbs but I was like 20yrs old.

If I eat like a regularly do and just drink nothing but water, will I lose weight and if so how much would I lose and how long would it take?

Is there any advice you could give me to lose more weight at a faster pace. I plan on starting exercising here pretty soon by going to the gym.

Please share your advice!

Also, is just drinking water and only water good for you if I dont drink any other liquid?

Would a soda every know and then kill my diet?
