if i buy a store bought webcam for my compaq CQ56 will it work?

i wanted to know because i got this compaq laptop CQ56 for my birthday and the paper says it has a webcam but it doesn't, so i wanted to buy a store bought webcam from like target or radioshack i really wanna know if i will work? cause when i go on facebook or youtube it says take a picture from webcam or upload a video from webcam and i only want it to reconize the one i buy not the one thatdoesn'tt work? PLEASE PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS ANSWERS PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! thank you
