If I buy a prepaid phone service w/ AT&T can I use the sim for my iPhone?

Thinking about getting a prepaid phone $60 a month for unlimited text & call. But I later I want to use an iPhone and just simply enter the sim into the iPhone.. will it still work? It's a 3G.
