if i am online on facebook chat and then go offline will people know?

like will they see a gray circle or just nothing?
WTH? some say yes some say no
i mean if i havent chat with no one. i go online to see whos online and someone i dont wanna chat to shows up. if i click on go offline, will that person see me on gray circle>
