I needed to be on my boyfriend's medical insurance and the only way his employer would allow this was with a common law marriage certificate. We had been living together for several yrs and planned on getting married when we had the money for a wedding. I know filing single of head of household has more tax benefits but I do not want to be in trouble with the IRS.
