As a first time rider I would personally recommend a 2008-2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Not only is this bike inexpensive ($3500 brand new) but it is light and much more forgiving in acceleration and turning than higher engine displacement motorcycles (600cc, i.e. Yamaha R6). Plus your insurance will be alot cheaper. $250 a year for a rider with no experience if you go with Geico. Buying the R6 will raise that figure to over $550 :P

I agree with both of the people above me...I just bought a 2009 Ninja 250R..on October 17....Man I love this bike I am a beginner also..Ive never ridden...Althought I would love to have an R6....but like they say Insurance is high....Also good luck trying to find a 2008+ Ninja 250R...I waited almost 3 months and I bearly got 1 with the deposit...

go with kawasaki ninja 250r. This bike is totally redesigned for 2008 and very easy to ride. Since it's got only 250cc engine it's not that intimidating for beginners at all. I think it's the best bike in its class so far. enjoy riding and be safe out there.
