until very recently people died by the thousands, records show the human population dwindled down to hardly nothing, but through accumulative learning we have medical science (vaccines, especially) that have saved millions. no matter how religiously devout the people in the past were they were obviously never helped by god or else their population would show it. by attributing that knowledge to god, it is disregarding the thousands of years that went by with no help from god, and god would have to do nothing at all.
