...have won the election ? why didn't the free marketeer get any special interest backing ?
If free market capitalism gives those "evil corporations" free reign, why didn't they get behind Ron Paul instead of Obama and McCain?

I can't really think of any logical answers to this question.

Banks (wanting bailouts), The big three (UAW), insurance companies (AIG, yo!) and big pharm BENEFIT from a large government.

Free market capitalism is honestly fantastic when it's regulated to prevent bullies from beating everyone up and business practices are molded to insure they are long-term sustainable.

There really is only problems when monopolies (bullies) start forming, when non-sustainable business models are adopted ... and it's even worse when monopolies operating non-sustainable business models occur and then they begin bribing government officials to try and sustain them.

But, then again, when that stuff happens ... it's not really free-market capitalism anymore, now is it?

Corporations, free markets, and capitalism are not at all bad ... but most of the things people are bitching about these days are not actually free market capitalism, but sort of statist/fascist type things where business power is too close to those in government and everyone turns into a bully.

As to Ron Paul ... the monopolies don't actually want free markets, they want monopolies where they control everything, the sort of thing Obama (a D.L.C. puppet/shill) and McCain were pretty much guaranteed to deliver to them.
