If Dumbledore was recast again, then ....

...who should play him?

Looking at the HPATOOTP thread there is a lot of opinion (shared by me) that Michael Gambon's protrayol of Dumbeldore is inferior to Richard Harris' and not in line with the books.

So if the part was recast - who should play?

I think Alec Guiness would have made an excellent Dumbedore (but unfortunately he's no longer available!)

So I think I'd go for Ian RicharRABon

Any takers?

After Richard Harris died I instantly thought of Ian Mckellen because of his role as Gandalf in LOTR and the characters Gandalf and Dumbledore are similar in appearance.

Another contender could have been Christopher Lee as well

Thing is i dont think anyone would be any good like Harris was but the guy died sadly but i really dont think there would be anyone else out there who would portray him the same!!!
Gambon isnt that bad but hes been given grief as hes not like Harris well of course hes not hes a different actor with a different accent and style of acting but its the curse of repalcing another he will never be liked jsut like Daniel Craig for Bond but i really dont think Gambon should be replaced now as hes done 2 hes not dead so there is no reason too repelace him just like i dont think any of the other people should be replaced!!

Peter O'Toole or John Hurt, both have got that benevolent yet fey, ethereal quality that defines Dumbledore for me. Michael Gambon is possibly the worst actor of all time, except for maybe Albert Finney, and where on earth is that stupid accent of his supposed to be from anyway? One minute he's Irish, the next its Cornish, plus he's too beefy and aggressive. Surely the film makers must have some idea of how unpopular he is, why dont they re-cast the role?

I really couldn't take to Michael Gambons version of Dumbledore. Hes meant to be a gentle calm character but Gambon made him look too energetic.
It also annoyed me in the 4th film the weird way he said Harry Potter. Richard Harris was much better I thought

I think if they did re-cast it, whoever it was wouldn't be as good as Richard Harris. He was perfect for the role.

But my vote would be for Sean Connery!

i don't like Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, i think the main thing is the colour of his hair, i know it's a stupid point but Richard Harris's Dumbledore hair was so white, Michael's is really grey

I don't think they would have the same actor playing major roles in both HP and LOTR so that rules out Ian McKellen.

In no particular order:

John Hurt
Sean Connery
Timothy Dalton
Anthony Hopkins
Brian Blessed
Patrick Stewart
Martin Shaw

but I'm not unhappy with Michael Gambon

Timothy Dalton's a good suggestion, never thought of him.

Other's have suggested Christopher Lee. He's too evil surely? Maybe he could be one of the Death Eaters instead?

Jason Isaacs is fab as Lucius Malfoy.

I much preferred Richard Harris' interpretation of Dumbledore, it's the way I saw him too. However Michael Gambon must know he has a tough act to follow, and I guess we just have to respect the way he interprets that character.

But when I'm reading the books, it's always Richard Harris :)
