Space is so extremely vast, even between stars. Chances are we have not even been found by another civilization, should other exist (which I believe they do). In fact, space is so vast, the chances are probably higher that any advanced race would grow up, go into space, have some fun, and die out before any of them (including us) run into each other. One thousand years from now, we may colonize entire sections of our own galaxy and still won't run into anyone. However, because galaxies are so massive (hundreds of billions of stars) and the Universe is even more insanely large (hundreds of billions of galaxies), there is life out there. There are also chances that civilizations are close together with in a few light years, possibly less, but the chances of meeting up are very low, but they may be throwing radio messages back and forth (interstellar pinpals).
