If Affirmative Action is unfair, then why does the media keep pointing out that Sonia

Sotomayor is hispanic? The whole point of AA is that without it, ethnic minorities would never get hired to do jobs they are qualified for, because of all the racism and prejudice there is in this country.

And yet all those people who criticize AA can't stop observing that Sonia Sotamayor is hispanic.

umm, it's sort of weird that a hispanic is being considered for the supreme court, isn't it? It seems that we can't stop pointing out the fact that she is hispanic (and therefore unsuitable for the position) and yet we still call AA unfair.

First I dont really understand your reasoning. The press points out she is Hispanic because her ethnicity is important and newsworthy to the journalists who write the stories.

Affirmative Action is a racist doctrine at its core disguising as "fairness" in helping people obtain promotions and good jobs who in the historical past have not had them before. It still is applied even though you have to look at our grandparents days to see that sort of thing anymore, but the groups who benefit still want the myth out there that they need it. It results in the disenfranchisement of White Males because they were the ones who had all the good job s in our grandfathers time.

Disenfranchising people leads to revolution and insurrection.

I have to say this is one of the, if not the most Liberal question in politics I have seen in a long time. Not at all because of its level of difficulty but because no matter how many times I read it, it just makes no sense to me. Why not just ask something stupid like, If a guy was drinking milk, would he have to eat a cookie with it?"

Your thinking is extremely dangerous to all people who apsire to look beyond our differences and desire a level playing field for all on the basis of qualifications and nothing else. I want you to think about this scenario carefully. The year is 2030. White men are the minority. The majority of small business owners are Hispanic. The legal system favors the rights of the white men because everybody has socially convinced themselves that this group is disadvantaged because of it. They are allowed preferential treatment when applying for jobs, grants, loans, government positions ect. Is this fair? No way! No more or less so, regardless of the group. Why are Jewish people not considered a special protected class? Why not men in our Family Courts? Why not American Indians? Why not the French, the Germans, the list gos on for ever....

You see if you open your eyes and seek wisdom you understand that the more our government gets involved in telling us what is right and wrong and deliberately selecting favoritism for some groups over others by identifying these special rights and ruling on them, the more they alienate all of us. At some point each of us could be on the other side of this discrimination and this is exactly what the government is promoting. Stop being a victim.

If Satomayor were a white man who elluded that he had a better ability to make decisions because he were white or a man, I would denounce him in a minute. I am a white man. Are people so hungry to identify with someone on the basis of their nationality, religion, heritage, gender, ect., that they will over look for political reasons the nomination to the highest court in our land, of someone whose core essence is political, divisive and shows a willingness to judge with bias? Perhaps this should have been your question!!

PS. If that scenario were to come true, as a white man, I would fight to prevent it too because nthe result of this enablement of a group without direct respect for their abilities to perform, is an insult and serves only to enslave ones soul to victimhood. And I would not want this for anyone!!!

I can't stand Affirmative Action if everyone worries about themselves and get educated we wouldn't have this problem. Racism is always going to exist its not only white people but of all race because people are just consumed with hate and jealousy for one another. Me personally I don't think she is qualified.

I am surprised lulac or naccp hasn't tried to make it a race issue for their 15 minutes of air time! I am hispanic, ex military , and soon to be college graduate and if everyone worried about themselves rather than the next person we wouldn't be having this discussion!

I'm pretty sure that nobody is saying that she is unfit because of her race. In fact that is a ridiculously ignorant thing to say. The reason people think she is unfit is due to her beliefs: the "living" constitution, the PRDLEF, La Raza, "wise Latina" comment, the Ricci case, etc.

The truth is that her politics are too liberal, not her judgements so far. Up to this point, she has been a little left of center, but not to ridiculous extremes to disqualify her. It's just her personal beliefs and politics.

Then at her confirmation hearing, she recants just about everything she has said. Why?!? Did she change her mind or is she just saying what people want her to say (she's had a long time to prep for this hearing).

The only reason why anyone is pointing out the fact that she is hispanic is due to the historical significance of it, not to say that she's suddenly unsuitable.
