...stand on the issues of today? How would he feel about the war in Iraq

How would he feel about our 700billion dollar bailout

If he were debating on Friday night against Obama and McCain, what would you expect from him
The entire Civil War added 2 billion in debt over the 4 years.

The Civil War times added 2 billion in debt....when you could get a suit for four dollars and things still cost a penny. When grocery shopping would run you a couple of bucks.... really? The Civil war devestated the country, but a lot of good came out of it. I think people have forgotten that, during the time of Lincoln- he was HATED by the people. He tore the country apart caused families to fight each other, to free people that were considered 'property'. He wouldn't let the south bail on the country.... Looking back, he was one of the greatest presidents in history, but no one thought that's how it would be then. If he'd of done what people had wanted him to do, this would be a much different world today. Maybe, people should stop wanting to do what's easy and start wanting to do what's right. That's what Lincoln did.

He was and still would be Republican. He'd be in favor of the Iraq War because we are spreading the cause of democracy. Having had a couple of failed businesses himself, I think he'd be somewhat sympathetic of the current crisis but both candidates are in favor of the current actions, and I imagine Lincoln would be as well.

Just so you know, it's not a full bailout. The federal government is buying up bad loans and will sell them when the economy is more stable, meaning the tax money being used will be replaced.

Hopefully, it will be given back to us.

Well, let's see.... at the time the Northern Democrats (lead by the pro-slavery/ pro-appeasement Copperheads) were complaining that Abe Lincoln had
A) Gotten us into a war under false premises
B) Raped and plundered the Constitution of the United States by installing a draft and suspending Habeas Corpus
C) Had spent too much money on a war against a non-agressive foe
D) Had lost too many American lives in a quagmire of a war
E) Couldn't speak proper English and was an inexperienced "boob" of a politician
F) Was a hick from a western state with no political sophistication
Sounds like he was the first GW Bush, to me. If he were debating Iraq on Friday, he'd probaly say freedom is always worth fighting for, whether it was freedom for 7 million African Americans in Slavery or 35 Million Iraqis.. but most importantly, the war must be WON, and must be fought to victory otherwise it only encourages the forces of oppression. The bailout is an exceptional act for an exceptional crisis... above all, it MUST NOT be used as a precedent for further Government involvement in the market in case of future, less drastic events.

Whoever invoked the Louisiana Purchase - that took place in April 1803, almost 60 years before Lincoln... so I'm not sure the parallel. It was purchased for 15,000,000 by Jefferson (after interest, it was a little more than 23,000,000 dollars- which would be $313,978,488.04 in today's money)

2 Billion in 1865 equals $26,798,826,595 in 2007

I think he wud agree with Bill CLinton in terms of we shudnt be throwing "bombs" at each other http://www.mofopolitics.com/2008/09/22/video-on-the-view-bill-clinton-says-hillary-never-wanted-to-be-obamas-vp/

He would take Sarah Palins stand more than the others... he was a Republican. Obama is a the most liberal Democrat in Congress #1 and Biden is #3, with McCain who is almost a Democrat himself.

Whats funny is all these Dems think McCain is a right wing nutjob and he is more liberal than most!

He would be an esteemed, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Goldwater, honest, trustworthy principled republican who would despise what modern republicans have done to disgrace his party. He would never have involved the country in Iraq. His party was against American expeditions into adventures of foreign folly.

He would shake his head and leave the podium.

700 Billion dollars! I need to put that into an inflation calculator to determine how much that was in his time.

You realize that the Louisiana purchase was (I think) 7 million?

Edit: Including interest, the U.S. finally paid $23,213,568 for the Louisiana territory.

700 billion today was equal to $8,932,507,716,763.32
(8.9 trillion) in 1865

he would be for overthrowing this corporate controlled/serving government. if you read a history book, and about what the founding fathers fought for,and why they created the bill of rights, and constitution-you would clearly see-that our current government and president are exactly what they were against. they abhorred too much executive power and corporate interests over individual interests.

It is funny every time I hear a Republican say that they are the party of Lincoln!

Lincoln was a Whig when in the House. When elected to the presidency he was a Republican, which was actually the fore-runner of today's Democratic Party, NOT Republican!

I don't think Lincoln would want to attack another country!

$700 Billion? I don't know. I doubt if he could even fathom that amount of money!

Lincoln was a very non-compromising president, so I don't think he is one who would want to say for the sake of saying them. However, I am not sure if he could comprehend that he was instant talking to 100 Million people!

Wiki say's this:

"Historians have concluded that he handled the factions of the Republican Party well, bringing leaders of each faction into his cabinet and forcing them to cooperate. Lincoln successfully defused a war scare with the United Kingdom in 1861. Under his leadership, the Union took control of the border slave states at the start of the war. Additionally, he managed his own reelection in the 1864 presidential election"

I don't know.....what if unicorns and lephrechauns could vote....would they vote for Obama or McCain......what would a unicorn think about the war in Iraq......do lephrechauns favor gay marriage?....because of the whole rainbow thing?....
