Wind is caused by high and low pressure, warmer air and cooler air.

The higher (warmer) air spreads out, and tries to mix with the cooler air, causing stronger winds.

...details.? If a thunderstorm is 6 km away from you, what direction will the wind be blowing (i.e. toward the storm or away from the storm.) As the storm gets closer (say 3km) the direction of the wind changes. Explain the original direction of the wind, and why it changes direction as it gets closer to you.
