If a police officer is suspended pending further psych evaluation?

Someone I know who is a police officer stated he was suspended pending further psych evaluation and later forced into retirement.... how much truth would I put into it?

Bank on it. The city would only do that if there as a record of his actions that would likley get the police department sued for civils rights violataion. otherwise why do they care what some crazy cop does.
