Recently, I learned that a collection agency has an account with my father's name, social security number, and date of birth (my father and I have the same name, however, he is deceased).
Originally, I spoke to this agency concerning this account over two years ago. Since this debt (pertains to me returning to college) is related to a college which I attended; and needs to be settled in order for me to return to this college, I need resolution.
I believe this is an oversight (mistake by the collection agency) since my father and I have the same name. This is most likely my account. Ethically, I believe I should pay this debt.
Questions: 1) How could this have happened? 2) Is this normal for these mistakes? 3) Must I pay the debt, if the collection agency does not have my vital information.
