About 3 months ago I was at a major intersection.. I was waiting for my green arrow by looking at the other light to turn red. As soon as it turned red I quickly turned my head to the left green arrow and I accelerated my car. Yet, I ended up hitting a biker who came cycling down the intersection without even a common sense to stop before the intersection, yet alone see if the light was at least green for him to pass. I hit him lightly and he was fine (I didn't even pass the walkway line because he came so fast). He wasn't hurt because I merely pushed on the gas and braked immediately. I didn't move my car more than 5 ft.
But what IF he was hurt? Who would be at fault? Am I still required to yield to pedestrians/ jay walkers on a green arrow? I believe he would be at fault because he broke the law, not me-I had the arrow! (my gf disagrees and believes I'm at fault). I find that ridiculous, Are pedestrians excused from the law just because they are not in the safety of a car? I live in Southern California, if that's relevant.
